Jucheck.exe
“jucheck.exe” is part of the Java Runtime from Sun Corporation and not a trojan, IF it is located where it is supposed to be – usually something like “C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_10\bin\jucheck.exe“
Viruses or Trojans are normally named identically together with other program files and operating system components to avoid detection. If the files are in a location where they don’t belong then YES there is a good chance that it is a malicious file.
Some malware camouflage themselves as jucheck.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus check the jucheck.exe process on your pc whether it is pest.
Just make sure to do some research before you do something, you could be deleting an important system file!

Just as Al, I have run a search and found it in 2 places. One is a Java folder. The other is in C:\Windows\prefetch. Using my highly trained skills, I have come to realise that JUCHECK is NOT a necessary Java file as some have alluded (jucheck = Java Update Checker) but rather an important .exe file used to check for Jews. Hence the name Jucheck……. hmmm.

Dear Edward Khoo
Thank you VERY MUCH for a very clear explanation as to what jucheck.exe, is all about. Namely a normal part of Sun Micro Systems Java Update.
I appreciate your telling us how to tell it is probably safe (if in correct folder location), and how it is likely a VIRUS if not in correct location.
But my question is this: Couldn’t a really smart hacker place a bad VIRUS in just this same location. Or are there blocks for this location?
Thanks again
Henry Gurr
I have a new hp laptop and jucheck.exe is constantly pestering me to download it. Even when I say “no”, it comes back to haunt me and waste my time.
Can I assume since it is NOT IN ANY FOLDER YET that it is safe to download?
Thanks for any clarification.
thanks for the info. i found the jucheck in both the “good” location/file and the windows\system32 one. How do I just remove it so it does not come up again and again???
jucheck.exe is constantly popping up and requesting my permission to make changes to my harddrive. when i say no another popup follows says new version of java ready to download. not sure about it. i figure if my pc has java why do i need this version update. even when i say no it keep popping up.
My wife’s new Win 7 HP laptop has been giving her that jucheck.exe message. I found jucheck.exe in 2 places which I suspect is ok, C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Java\Java Upd… and C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin. From what is stated above this appears to be a valid application….hopefully.
