Thank you for your clear info - my jucheck.exe file appears to be in the 'right' place.

But my query is, WHY? I haven't asked to use Java. I understand that in general there are risks and vulnerabilities associated with it, which is why some network admins prefer to disable it.

So what's it doing popping up and making itself part of my life, asking me 5 mins after each startup to give my permission for a Java program to continue?

Background history: I bought a new HP laptop last year, with Vista pre-installed (I begged the shopkeeper for XP instead, but no deal). That's it, period. No online gaming. No IRC. No P2P file sharing. No fancy software. The only things I have installed are an internet wireless dongle (for the 3 network; my browser is M/S Internet Explorer) and Windows Media Player. Do either of these rely upon use of Java? I doubt it, since when I refuse permission for the Java program to continue (jucheck.exe) the dongle continues to work satisfactorily anyway. As does Media Player.

Can anyone explain why I would have Java installed on my machine, making periodic insistent noises to be permitted to run?

Before I delete this file I found I wanted to get any feed back I can first. When I searched my Computer for jucheck.exe I got 3 results . 2 of them seem ok and are located in C:Program files. But one file is in C:Windows:Prefetch . Now can you tell me why that would be there? Or if it is a real Java file? Thank you for you time.
