Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail Attachment Size Limit
Email has allowed us to send files & documents online without any fees & it can reached the recipient in just a few seconds time. However there’s a drawback : Email service providers such as Hotmail, Yahoo and Gmail have attachment size limit for the files being attached.
So what are the attachment size limit?
Hotmail : 10MB
Yahoo : 20MB
Gmail : 20MB
So now you know which email service provider that you should choose 
If you are finding an alternative to send big size files, try service such as yousendit.com which allows users to send files up to 2GB!

I think your information is wrong, I have recently tried to send emails to Hotmail addresses that are 5.1MB
It fails with the following delivery report:

: Maybe the recipient’s inbox is full with documents, that’s y your attachment couldnt reach him/her
Even considering a file as much as 20MB may be sent out of gmails, Google annotates that allowance with a caveat that attachments are sent with added encodings for the trasmissions of the email. So a document of exactly 20MB may fail delivery because with transmission encodings added to the document vy itself, comes to exceed the size allowance in Google and most certainly in other servers as well. Additionally, Google reminds its users, as I am, that senders should consider the size limit the recipient’s server allows, such that the recipient’s email has the capacity to receive a large file. If incompatibility exists, I have found out in my own experience, that the email fails delivery, which is why I have been looking at the attachments size limits of various servers, other than Google. There are also those now rarities but persisting: aol.com, university department addresses, sbc.global,net, cox.net and many more among my contacts that reject large file attachments.
i think the size limit for gmail is about 25 mb, cuz i sent 9 pics 2 a friend once, and they were all between 1.5 mb – 3mb

On the signing-in page fro yahoo, there is a line that says
‘Can’t access your mail?’
Click on the box next to it, then yahoo will walk you through.
I forgot to say that you must have an alternate email. This is very easy to do. I suggest hotmail or yahoo.

The figure given for Hotmail (and probably the others) is the total message size, not the individual attachments. The total message size is actually the sum of the sizes of all the attachments and images multiplied by about 1.34 (3 bytes of the image are encoded as 4 characters in MIME base64 encoding), plus say 4K for headers and body text (4K = 0.004MB). So a 5.1MB attachment plus another 2MB attachment would be too big for Hotmail. You will get a 552 error either from your email provider or the destination if you try to send something larger than the policy allows.
In general, I’d suggest not sending an email of greater than 1MB, certainly not if the recipient doesn’t expect it, as on narrowband connections it may take hours to download. People seem to forget that the purpose of email is to send information (primarily text with a few illustrative images) – you will often see emails containing something like an invitation (about 1K of information as text) with a logo that contains no information at all but wastes about 5MB. So it’s good if email users are conscious of this. (People used to be aware of such “netiquette” and not bottom-quoting until about 1999, but it doesn’t seem to be in most ISPs’ interests to educate newbies!)
There are times when you may want to send large high-resolution files to professional printers – generally FTP is best for this, and the printers may well provide an FTP upload instructions.

I have a Yahoo Mail Plus account. I just scanned an 11 page text document and tried to email it as an attachment. Now my email is locked up, perpetually saying it’s sending 1 of 1 messages, and it won’t let me delete or close it. Two questions:
1) How do I shut down the send process and delete so I can move forward?
2) How can I email what I believe is a 150+ MB scanned email attachment?

I just checked my gmail account as I was trying to send a large file to someone’s yahoo account and got a failure. Gmail allows up to 25mb. You should update your website so people don’t have to crawl through comments to find the correct information. Thx for the info though.

This information, though probably correct at time of publication, is now out of date. Gmail does have a 25MB limit and hotmail (which I use) has increased recently considerably (I don’t know the exact limit but it’s a lot because I’m yet to ever reach it).
