I’m new to gaming and just bough a Nintendo DS Lite for my kid. The vendor sold me one DSLite + R4card + 2BG Card + Games for RM650.00. But my nagging feeling is he told me not to change the year from 2009 to 2010.(I tried to change it to 2010, but the system didn’t work) and the box said ” Unit For Korea Only” Nr. UKFXXXXXXXX
Have I been been sold counterfeit unit or they hack the unit ?

There are some shops that are selling Nintendo DS for price RM499 (console + games + R4DS).
Some are selling RM650 – RM700 and same package. The one selling at this price says the cheaper ones are recon console. Any idea?
By the way, Yes – the games can be downloaded and copied to the SD card. How many games, depend on SD card size. Size of a game can range from 50K – 500K.

what type of R4 card do you use?
does it have web address on the sticker? – try to go to the address to download your firmware…
erase your old firmware and copy back your firmware to your sd card (if you have the backup firmware)
if it still couldn’t find menu.dat, backup all your games and save files and then format the sd card and then copy back the firmware to your sd card…
Better save your money and wait for the The new Nintendo 3DS.

I dont really understand the use of R4. There is also a lot type of R4. Can someone tell me what is the use of R4 and which type is the best?
R4 is like a Nintendo DS storage devices since the Nintendo DS is not sold with a rewritable storage medium.
The storage device either contains flash memory or a slot for a memory card to store homebrew or downloaded commercial games that fit in SLOT-1 (the DS Game Card slot)
R4 has a lot of clones/fake, so for me, any R4 that works with YSMenu or TTMenu is the best since it can be updated regularly ~ thanks to Retrogamefan.
R4 cards are sort of hack card that are used to play downloaded games (pirated, hacked, homebrew) directly from SD card that can be inserted into R4 card. Otherwise you would have to buy each game separately at high price.
Personally I would have gone for the original R4i card. Gives the best menu and latest updates. If you want to know how it look like, check the r4i site as below

The difference between this and clones is Clones menu generally looks ugly, firmware not updated as quickly (that includes latest games hack, etc). Menu of lots of clones are just like the OLD PC dos while menu of the original is finely tuned GUI based.
I got 2 DS lite, one using R4i as in the site above, another using clone. Some of the games can’t be played on the clone (hang after loading), most are ok tho. However R4i had no problem loading the all same games. I don’t know if its me, but some games seems to load a bit longer in the clone than on R4i.
hi Cavin.i am Edy. and i am a newbie at Nintendo DS. planning to buy it this year. can you tell me more about DS? is it same like PSP where u can dl the games from the internet and then transfer them to the memory card? and how about the game play? are they like PSP (with 3D effect) or just like the old Gameboys Advance (everything in 2D for example all the Pokémon games?
